NWCG Data Standards
According to "The DAMA Dictionary of Data Management 2nd Edition," 2011, the word "standard" is defined as "A model or example established by authority, custom or general consent, used in measurement and comparison of quality, value, quantity or extent."
Wildland fire data standards referenced below were approved under the direction of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Data Standards and Terminology Subcommittee. Standards include data elements and geospatial data layers, that provide specifications for the common usage of similar data across the wildland fire community and information systems.
Data standard details available in EDG (Enterprise Data Governance).
While NWCG Data Standards are displayed in general terms on the NWCG.gov website, only a general description is currently available. The details of the data standards are outlined within EDG. Until we are able to directly integrate with the website to make these publicly available, here are some links to some of the more frequently requested data standards and their permissible values.
